Freedom Mobile has launched a strategic rollout of 3800 MHz spectrum in its 5G+ network across Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia, marking a significant upgrade in network capabilities.
The upgrade is set to deliver download speeds of over 1 Gbps, lower latency, and enhanced reliability for compatible 5G+ devices.
Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and CEO of Quebecor, Freedom Mobile’s parent company, highlighted, “The activation of 3800 MHz spectrum within our network shows our determination to challenge the ‘big three’ while establishing a strong fourth competitor in Canada’s wireless market.”
The deployment leverages the 3500 and 3800 MHz spectrum (n77) to optimize speed and capacity and includes key areas, such as the Greater Toronto area, Hamilton, Burlington, and Oakville in Ontario. The spectrum upgrades in Alberta will also cover Edmonton, Calgary, Edmonton International Airport (Leduc), the West Edmonton Hall, and St. Albert’s community.
In British Columbia, the spectrum has already been deployed across Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, and Delta, with additional sites slated for activation in the coming months.
Péladeau added, “Since its acquisition by Quebecor, Freedom Mobile has invested heavily in network infrastructure to expand its capabilities while maintaining the competitive pricing that Canadians deserve. We remain committed to innovation that keeps wireless services both affordable and accessible.”
To access enhanced 5G+ capabilities, customers must subscribe to a 5G+ plan and use compatible devices, including the iPhone 16 series and Motorola Razr+. Other devices set to gain compatibility include Samsung’s Galaxy S24 lineup, Z Fold6, Z Flip6, and Google’s Pixel 9 series.
The 3800 MHz deployment further aligns with Quebecor’s broader strategy to position Freedom Mobile as a fourth competitor in Canada’s telecommunications sector, challenging existing providers by integrating advanced technologies and competitive pricing.
